An abstract painting seen in an exhibition space
02 / EXHIBITIONS

The room is
part of
the story.

Let the exhibition
set a different pace.

An exhibition is more than a collection of individual works. It creates relationships: between objects, between ideas, and between the work and the person looking at it.

Notice the arrangement.

Before reading every label, look at the room. Which work is encountered first? What can be seen together? Distance, lighting and the order of the rooms offer a way of reading the exhibition.

Spend time with one work.

Choose a work that holds your attention. Stay long enough to notice a detail you missed at first. A texture, an edge or an unexpected relationship may change your first impression.

Read, then look again.

A title, date or material can open another route into a work. Bring that information back to what is in front of you. Let the object and the context remain in conversation.

Keep the question.

A visit does not need to end in a verdict. The work you cannot immediately explain may be the one you continue thinking about afterwards.
